The story of The Light in the Mist revolves around your missing friend, and as you embark on a mysterious journey through a spooky forest, you discover a curious item that serves as a tarot deck, puzzle game, and work of art. Players will use the 78 beautifully illustrated cards to manipulate, find hidden messages, and solve logic and word problems in order to uncover the deck's secrets and progress through the story.
The deck contains 22 Major Arcana cards, each with a puzzle that can be solved using the other four suits, the Minor Arcana, in the deck. The gameplay is non-linear, allowing players to complete the challenges in any order, facilitating a choose-your-own-path style experience. This means that every group will experience the story in their own way, without having to learn any complicated rules.
The game setup is easy - starting with the box of cards and reading the intro at the beginning of the rule book. Then, start with The Fool card and solve your way through the Major Arcana until you reach the World card. These are the two main lynchpins, but the path from one to the other is up to you!
Don’t be fooled by the size - this adventure will take five + hours to solve all the puzzles. Reviewers say this is a challenging game but not considered “very hard.” Go online for hints, and don’t worry - they won’t spoil the ending!
After solving the puzzles, the cards are designed so well that you can use them as an actual tarot deck, even with all the hidden clues.
